Independent Public Radio

Radio Sagarmatha exists because enough people believed and continue to believe that an independent public voice is essential for Nepal to evolve and grow as a free society of people. While legislation enshrines the rights of freedom of expression and the public’s right to information, Radio Sagarmatha makes them a reality. And as Nepal is increasingly influenced by commercial and foreign popular culture, Radio Sagarmatha stands out as an important source of local non-commercial culture and a way to preserve Nepal’s unique heritage.

Though Radio Sagarmatha has many international friends who have provided funds to get the station up and running, the organization must be self-reliant. As with community and public radio stations around the world, Radio Sagarmatha depends to a large extent on the voluntary contributions of listeners and supporters to fund the station’s operations.

Radio Sagarmatha is a non-profit organization. All donations are used to maintain and improve public-interest and community broadcasting in Kathmandu and Nepal. If you like, you can choose to direct your donation to a particular area of operations: Basic Operations; Equipment; Programming; Ghumti Radio; New Rural Radio; Safa Radio: Clean Air Campaign; and we’re open to your suggestions.
