As mentioned above, Radio Sagarmatha focuses more on serving the public interest. Therefore, most of the programs are meant to be responsible towards the listeners. With the station being run by journalists themselves, the programs too are related more to news and events but entertainment gets the equal importance. But unlike other commercial stations, Radio Sagarmatha plays the music that is of class and is soothing. The day at Radio Sagarmatha begins as early as five in the morning with soothing Bhajans and ends with the latest pop music. With the on-spot reporting, Radio Nepal news, interviews, round up of daily news and BBC World Today, the morning edition of Radio Sagarmatha is best suited to those who matter on what's happening around the globe. Radio Sagarmatha has joined hands with the world's premiere radio station BBC to rebroadcast BBC World News, sports roundup and BBC Nepali Service for an hour every morning and evening. The evening program from 4 pm to 11pm primarily focuses on entertainment and light subjects but are presented with equal responsibility and enthusiasm. For those who have been addicted to the programs of Radio Sagarmatha, we are operational for the whole day on Saturdays. |

From the outset, Radio Sagarmatha has worked to present listeners with a human package, a combination of issues and entertainment, social discussions and music, as well as being a vehicle for the variety of voices and opinion previously unheard on Nepal’s radio channels. It is in its programming that the station’s difference from the state broadcaster and the growing number of Western-style commercial stations is most clear. Radio Sagarmatha’s programming has given hundreds, perhaps thousands, the opportunity to have their voices and opinions heard in a public forum. On a daily basis, the station takes listeners onto the streets and into locations of everyday life. The variety of voices and sounds (as well as the less than state-of-the-art equipment) gives the tone of the station a very different feeling from other broadcasters in this part of the world, one of real life as lived by real people and ultimately programmed by real people. Interviews and people profiled on the station come from a wide array of backgrounds and occupations. Public affairs journalism and broadcasting are at the heart of Radio Sagarmatha’s mission and vision for a more responsible press and a more pluralistic society, but with a long and powerful tradition of folk media and a rich musical heritage, cultural programming is also prominent in the station’s ten hour daily broadcast. |

Radio Sagarmatha is presently working on developing itself as a resource center, as an archive point and a center generating information and knowledge necessary for a public radio station. With Radio Sagarmatha already taking off, NEFEJ (Nepal Forum of Environmental Journalists) is now setting up a Community Resource Center which will help set up public interest radio stations in different parts of the country. NEFEJ (Radio Sagarmatha) has already worked as a facilitator to set up a FM station in Madan Pokhara, Palpa providing them with all the technical and other assistance and has also provided support to Radio Lumbini based in Butwal. |

Though Radio Sagarmatha was initially set up as a non-profit making radio station, we have felt the need for adjusting commercial advertisements to sustain the station for a longer period as the donor assisted programs cannot assure the sustainability in the long run. This is why Radio Sagarmatha in now open to selective commercials. As the programs in Radio Sagarmatha represent all sections of the society, from a taxi driver to the decision maker, advertising in Radio Sagarmatha will be highly beneficial with your message reaching thousands of listeners in Kathmandu valley and the surrounding areas.
